An Imagine Dragons concert at Vasil Levski Stadium in front of over 40 000 people, with technical production by Real Sound Rental. A centre screen and two side screens that read from the back row of the stadium - nearly 400 m² in total.

The LED screens were ours - delivery, installation and a crew on site for the whole concert: two multimedia operators, four technicians at every point by the screens and two riggers. Centre screen 20 × 10 m - 200 m² P4.808; two side screens of 7.68 × 12.80 m - 98 m² each, P6.667. Three days to install, a crew of twelve.

A concert for over 40 000 people with nearly 400 m² of picture. Real Sound Rental’s next event was with us again.

“For the Imagine Dragons concert at Vasil Levski Stadium … their team took care of everything - from design to installation.”

How the work went

A stadium concert is the simplest and the most unforgiving job for an LED screen. The back row is tens of metres from the stage and the picture has to read from there; the front rows are so close they can see the gap between every diode. That is why the centre screen has a finer pitch (P4.808) than the side screens (P6.667): it carries the close-ups and the show graphics, while the side screens carry the camera feeds for the far stands.

The three days of installation go on the structure and flying, the cable runs to the stage, the power, and the set-up with the production’s cameras. Refresh rate, brightness and colour of all three screens are matched before the first rehearsal, so no seam shows between the centre and the side screens. On concert day the two multimedia operators are at the desk, the four technicians are at their points by the screens, and the riggers look after the flown screens. Spare modules, a processor and power are on site, as with every rental of ours.

A screen for a stadium or a large arena starts from the distance to the last viewer, not from the budget: the pitch follows from it, and the price comes from the pitch and the size. The LED screen rental page has the table of pitch against nearest viewer, and the calculator shows an exact total with a breakdown for the size and pitch you choose, with no form before the number.

If the concert will be filmed for TV or a stream, tell us in advance: the camera needs a higher refresh rate so there is no banding in the shot, and that changes which pitch we recommend. We ask three things first: how many people and how far back the last row is, whether there will be cameras, and when the stage is ready for flying. The pitch, the area and the installation schedule come from the answers.
